Donald Cowbourne's
Rallies and Trials Books

The four books provide a unique and comprehensive record of all the major road Rallies and Trials that were conducted in the British Isles during the period from 1902 until 1939. Also included are details of the British entrants in the Monte Carlo Rallies from 1925 to 1939 (Rallies which were first held in 1911 and 1912, after which they lapsed until their revival in 1924 – with a British entrant first competing in 1925) together with similar details of the British entrants in the International Alpine Trials from their introduction in 1928 until their demise following the 1936 event.

Each book contains complete lists of entrants in the various events together with information about the individual results which the drivers obtained. Illustrations are included showing examples of most of the awards and photographs of competing cars.

Whilst it proved impossible to record every detail regarding the cars or motorcycles the make of every entrant’s vehicle is recorded in all the different events. Hardly without exception, the competitors’ Rally or Trial numbers are recorded and they can prove invaluable when examining old photographs taken during the various events. Some of the vehicles’ registration numbers have also been recorded and further research is constantly revealing more. This together with any more information will be posted on this website, periodically, for the benefit of those who own copies of the books.

It is with deep sadness I have to announce the death of Donald Cowbourne on Sat 26th. July 2008
