“BRITISH RALLY DRIVERS”
p.561 Delete – “No Coachwork Numbers could be traced for the 1936 Rally other than those which
p.578 – Almost identical photographs were published in The Autocar and The Motor, with similar captions, stating – “These three cars driven by E H Jacob, E W Rankin and B D Matthews won both the manufacturers’ and Club Team Prizes in the 1937 Welsh Rally”. One of the cars, stated to have been driven by B D Matthews, is registered AVM1. This would appear to contradict the entry in “British Rally Drivers” – (Welsh Rally – SS – 1937 – Rally No.40) which records that a Mrs V Hetherington competed in AVM1, an entry which has been confirmed by other photographic evidence clearly showing AVM1 with Rally No.40. Also, further photographic evidence indicates that the B D Matthews entry was GMH8 (Rally No.35). On the photograph published in The Autocar and The Motor the Rally Number appears to have been removed from the car attributed to B D Matthews and yet the Rally numbers are clearly displayed on the other two cars. It would appear that, in this particular photograph AVM1, no longer displaying a Rally number, was a substitution – for photographic purposes only.
